Military clothing is generally made to help soldiers have flexibility so that they can quickly get down into prone position, and other fast maneuvers without tearing any seams or fabric.

On that note; durability is a key factor to think about. At JayJays we cannot stress enough that many soldiers buy the cheapest clothing they can find, when in the long run; the durability of the cheaper fabrics will rip, tear, snag, rub and rot away a lot quicker than the tested materials which you can only get from very few suppliers.

The main issue soldiers find when buying clothing is that it is either too tight or too baggy – this factor should be one of your priorities when buying, as the correct fit means you are less likely to catch on things, removes unnecessary weight and will be easier for you to have more movement. Too tight clothing will restrict movement and cause more tears as you may stretch the seams out, you may find that it’ll be easier to cut, and scratch yourself through the materials as the abrasion will be reduced due to the material stretching and pulling the weaved fibres apart causing the fibres to rub and separate easier. You need to find the size that’s in between, that size will provide you with the best-fit clothing.

Military clothing is usually worn for extended periods of time, so you’ll want to be comfy and dry. Whilst most suppliers provide waterproof clothing, be sure to check the waterproof rating to see how much moisture the clothing can withstand.

Military kit is normally made in MTP, black, grey, tan or green. Civilian kit can come in a whole range of colours as it is usually less tailored to specific needs. Whilst a pair of hiking boots may be okay for tabbing, they would not be suitable for combat or tactical training – this same ethos should be applied to clothing too. A light waterproof may be okay for a Sunday stroll, but how would it hold up after 4 days of intense operations?

So, when looking for robust, quick-shift clothing you’re better off going to a military supplier, here is our range …

LFR Layer Jacket

Purposely designed for dynamic operations and environments where a layer piece would be more practical – this lightweight, highly compressible and versatile insulation jacket can easily be thrown on and off if you are stopping and starting all day. It’s small size and weight mean you can carry it everywhere without compromise. It will even compress down to fit in a webbing utility pouch!

It can be used as a standalone jacket with suitable base layers in cool weather or as part of a system in harsher environments.

The sleeves can be quickly detached (and re-attached!) with low profile zips for even greater flexibility, allowing full freedom of movement while keeping your core warm. The zips do not run near where a pack, your webbing or armour system could potentially rub.

Nano Tech Windproof Smock

An evolution of the traditional 4 pocket windproof smock dating from World War 2.

The JayJay’s Improved Windproof Smock is cut in an Alpine “athletic” style with shaped arms and semi-fitted body with a scooped hem in order to minimize weight and bulk and increase mobility and comfort.

All the main body pockets are designed to be as flat as possible to minimize pressure points when wearing armour systems. The placement of the pocket zips works around various load carriage solutions.

The biceps pocket is roomy enough to accept an issue field dressing and CAT Tourniquet.

All pockets are mesh lined for drainage and feature paracord tie in loops for kit security, the main upper chest pocket features internal pockets to stabilize items such as compasses or torches etc.

Constructed from tight weave windproof cotton materiel used in the original SF smocks, which has been further enhanced with a NanoTech water repellent finish.

Ventus NTech50 Windproof Smock

A new evolution of the traditional 4 pocket windproof SAS smock. The smock now Features 4 main pockets on the body, a compass pocket on the chest, admin pocket on the left arm and a shaped hood.

Instead of using the old Gabardine, the Ventus NTech50 smock is now constructed from a new material exclusively designed and produced for JayJays®.

The new material is a much better match for issued MTP and is a tightly woven polycotton coated with Nanotechnology. This ensures that it is windproof, very fast drying, water repellent and able to withstand over 50,000 abrasive rubs during testing.

We had to stop at 50,000 rubs because we couldn’t Programme the machine to go any higher! For reference, on our test platform Gabardine failed at 31,000 rubs.

With all this in mind, we will be introducing our full new clothing range shortly.
