Exercise Cambrian Patrol is an annual international military exercise that involves its participating units covering a 65km course in less than 48 hours whilst performing numerous types of tasks, manouvers & patrols through the Cambrian Mountains of Mid Wales.

Originally set up in 1959 by Major General Lewis Pugh DSO to feature long distance marching over the Cambrian Mountains from West Wales. Since then, the exercise has been rigorously updated to meet the challenges faced by modern soldiers today.

Now the exercise is recognised by military units worldwide who train months in advance to take part.

The most recent patrol seen a total of 120 patrols including a record breaking 36 international patrols take place. This was all made possible by the 300 directing staff ensuring the route, challenges and safety of participants were executed to perfection.

To mark the 65th anniversary of the Cambrian Patrol, JayJays® were invited along to showcase our equipment and knowledge to the soldiers, staff and delegates, and was placed among some of the biggest names in military defence.

At JayJays® we pride ourselves in the versatility and build quality of our products which is why we accepted the opportunity to showcase our products to 120 military units and visitors. Granted, we may have displayed some products that have not yet been announced, but that should keep you guessing what’s to come.

We even met soldiers and officers who currently own out products and used these during the patrol.

In a social media post, we highlighted photography by the talented Ross Gourlay (@callsign.rogo), who followed a unit throughout the patrol capturing images of them taking part in this years Cambrian Patrol. In the photos it features J Thompson and G Wise, who were both wearing JayJays® products during the patrol.

J Thompson can be seen wearing our Gen IV Commanders Webbing, Molle Yoke with a Bum Roll and Smoke Grenade Pouch as his attachments.

Throughout the months leading up to Cambrian Patrol, we were busy in the shop welcoming international military units, showcasing our kit, explaining how it’s made in our very own workshop and pointing out some historical pieces that were tested in the harshest environments of war and kindly donated back to us.

We hosted the US Army’s ROTC Virginia Military Institute as they made history being the first members of the United States Military to take part in the Cambrian Patrol, which is considered to be NATO’s most challenging patrol test.
